Dr. Owusu Ansah, widely known as Franko Naro, a seasoned sports journalist says while both Kotoko and Hearts may not be as dominant as they were in the past, they are still the biggest and most influential clubs in Ghanaian football.
For decades, Kotoko and Hearts have not made huge strides in football on the continent. As the country’s oldest and most successful football clubs, they have always been at the forefront of both domestic and continental football.
With a rich history, these clubs have amassed numerous league titles, FA Cups, and continental successes. Kotoko, for instance, won the prestigious CAF Champions League in 1970 and 1983, while Hearts secured the continental title in 2000, making them a source of national pride.
Franko Naro insists that Kotoko and Hearts still stand head and shoulders above any other Ghanaian football club. “Yes, times have changed, and the game has evolved, but Kotoko and Hearts are still the most prominent clubs in Ghanaian football,” Naro explained. “These clubs have the largest fan bases, the most established histories, and the most recognition, both locally and internationally.” Franko Naro said on Kessben Sports. ”
Another aspect that keeps Kotoko and Hearts at the top of the Ghanaian football hierarchy is their media presence. As more clubs develop digital platforms and engage with their fan base through social media, Kotoko and Hearts have been able to maintain strong relationships with their supporters. In many ways, this media presence is a key factor in their continued relevance in Ghanaian football.
