We Will Resource The Grassroots And Drive NDC Out – NPP Treasurer Hopeful Alfred Thompson Declares After Successful Vetting

National Treasurer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alfred Kojo Thompson, says he is confident of making it onto the ballot paper after successfully going through the party’s vetting process ahead of the October 3 National Delegates Conference.

Speaking to the media shortly after appearing before the National Vetting Committee at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Monday, Mr. Thompson declined to disclose details of what transpired in the vetting room, insisting that vetting is done under oath.

“Anything you go under vetting is under oath. So what do you want me to tell you? It went well. Everything has been successful. It’s been good, and I can tell you that definitely you will see me on the ballot paper,” he stated.

The businessman and long-time financier of the party, who is contesting for the National Treasurer position, said he is sure that at the end of the day, he will be cleared and will go on to lead the party’s transformation agenda.

“I’m sure at the end of the day, I will be on the ballot, and I believe that we’re going to carry this party. We’re going to make sure that we resource the grassroots. We’re going to make everything well for them, and we’ll make sure that they will be able to have enough funding to work as what is needed to guide the party forward,” he emphasized.

Mr. Thompson, who has been touring the country meeting delegates, said his main priority if elected as National Treasurer will be to resource the base of the party, which he says has been neglected for far too long.

“I have told you in a nutshell what we are going to do. We are going to resource the grassroots to make sure that they work. We are going to resource the delegates to make sure that they work. We are going to work with them. We are not going to sit down and rest on our oars. We are going to work with them to make sure that we transform the base of the party,” he explained.

According to him, when the grassroots are well-resourced and motivated, they will naturally enjoy the party and be willing to work to support its flagbearer and parliamentary candidates.

“People will enjoy the party, people will be part of it, and people will be willing to work to support the party and support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become the next president of this country. I can give you that assurance because I know how we can generate funds, I know how we can do it, and we are going to do it and do it very well,” he assured.

He disclosed that his plan involves setting up innovative fundraising mechanisms, engaging the diaspora and business community, and creating a transparent system where every cedi raised is accounted for and channeled to where it is most needed.

Mr. Thompson also used the opportunity to thank delegates and party members for the overwhelming support they have shown him so far on his campaign tour.

“I would say I thank them all for the support they’ve given me so far. I would say it’s been a good journey. I’ve learnt a lot from them. I’ve learnt a lot with them,” he said.

He called on delegates to trust him with the party’s purse, saying treasury is all about trust.

“They can take the assurance from me that I’m the person they can trust. I’ve always said that treasury comes with trust. Trust comes with Thomson, and they can rely on Thomson to deliver for them because they are in my heart and in my mind, and I’m going to work with them to deliver victory, resounding victory,” he declared.

He concluded with a strong political message, stating that the NPP under his stewardship as Treasurer will be financially strong enough to drive out the NDC and transform Ghana.

“We’re going to drive the NDC out. We’re going to transform Ghana. We’re going to make Ghana great again. Thank you,” he said.

Alfred Kojo Thompson is among several aspirants vying for the National Treasurer position including Hajia Ruka Saida Ahmed, the only female in the race, and other stalwarts. The position is considered one of the most critical as the party seeks to rebuild its financial strength ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The NPP will on October 3, 2026 converge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new national executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

Analysts say the Treasurer race will be about who has the capacity to raise money, who is trustworthy, and who has the heart for the grassroots. Mr. Thompson is betting on his business background and his long history of supporting the party financially to win the trust of delegates.

With vetting now over, he says he is heading back to the constituencies to continue his engagement with delegates, with a simple message – Trust Thomson to resource the grassroots and deliver resounding victory in 2028.
