BOAKYE AGYARKO: Put Your Confidence In Me, I Will Finish The Job – NPP Chairmanship Hopeful After Vetting

Former Energy Minister and stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, has appealed to delegates of the party to put their confidence in him and give him their votes to lead the party as National Chairman ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to the press shortly after facing the NPP’s National Vetting Committee on Monday ahead of the National Delegates Conference slated for October 3, 2026 in Kumasi, the soft-spoken but firm politician described his vetting experience as successful and insightful.

“Vetting went very well, and it was a very good experience,” he told journalists with a smile at the party’s headquarters.

Mr. Agyarko, who is contesting for the National Chairman position, however, declined to give full details of what transpired behind closed doors, citing reasons of confidentiality and respect for the vetting committee’s processes.

“Well, the reason why I was the only one allowed in is for reasons of confidentiality. So it will be unlike me to share the details inappropriately. I have to respect the process,” he explained.

According to him, although he cannot disclose the specific questions asked, the overarching concern of the vetting committee was clear – how to lift the party from its current state, re-energize its base and win the 2028 general elections.

“However, I will say that they were very concerned about the state of our party, and all their hearing was to see how we can lift this party and win the general elections in 2028. That was the deep thing that sat with them, and they wanted an understanding of our vision,” he said.

He added that the focus of the committee was in the right direction, as it centered on strategy, unity, and the future of the NPP.

“That is exactly what should be on the mind of every true party member now – how do we rebuild and win. And I think the vetting is in the right direction,” he noted.

The former campaign manager of the NPP and one-time presidential aspirant said he is the right man to unite the various factions within the party and provide the kind of mature, calm and strategic leadership needed for victory.

When asked what his message will be to delegates as he heads back to the campaign trail after vetting, Mr. Agyarko was brief but powerful in his appeal.

“So now we are done with the vetting, what will be my message to the delegates going back to the campaign? Put your confidence in me. Give me your votes and your blessings, and I will finish the job. Thank you,” he stated.

Boakye Agyarko is no stranger to the NPP. A founding member of the party’s student wing and a long-time financier and strategist, he served as National Campaign Manager for the 2012 elections and later as Minister for Energy under President Nana Akufo-Addo from 2017 to 2018.

He is widely respected within the party for his deep knowledge of its tradition, his calm demeanor, and his ability to build bridges across divides.

Political analysts say his entry into the National Chairmanship race adds serious weight and intellectual depth to the contest. He is contesting against other heavyweights including former Chairman Paul Afoko, former General Secretary John Boadu, and other aspirants yet to complete their vetting.

Mr. Agyarko used the opportunity to call for a decent and issue-based campaign, warning that the party cannot afford to go into the October 3 elections divided.

He said after vetting, he will continue his nationwide tour, meeting delegates in all 16 regions and engaging them on his vision which he calls “Restoring the Soul and Strength of the NPP.”

His vision, he says, rests on three pillars: Reuniting the party, rebuilding its structures from polling station to national level, and restoring its values of discipline, service and sacrifice.

The NPP’s National Delegates Conference on October 3, 2026 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is expected to elect new national executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years and lead the charge for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.

With vetting now underway, the party says only aspirants who successfully go through the process and are cleared by the committee will be allowed to contest.

Delegates say they are looking for a Chairman who can heal wounds after the party’s defeat in 2024, mobilize resources, enforce discipline, and position the party strongly against the ruling NDC.

For Boakye Agyarko, his message is simple: He has done it before, he understands the NPP tradition, and he is ready to finish the job of bringing the NPP back to power.
