NPP Treasurer Race: I’ll Use Mobile Money And Airtime To Fund Party, Create Welfare For Grassroots – Collins Nuntwiri Nuamah

Aspiring National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Collins Nuntwiri Nuamah, says his candidature is anchored on solving the party’s biggest challenge in opposition – lack of resources to rebuild for victory in 2028.

Speaking shortly after his vetting before the National Vetting Committee on Monday, Mr. Nuntwiri Nuamah described the process as smooth and thanked delegates and listeners for the opportunity.

“This is the first time I have subjected myself to such a process. Four years ago I ran for the same position as National Treasurer but I lost it over there. So this is new for me because I haven’t done this before. It was a smooth process,” he said.

According to him, while the NPP is in a rebuilding phase after losing power, rebuilding cannot be successful without adequate funding, especially in opposition when resources are scarce.

“The party is rebuilding, but you can never rebuild very well when you don’t have resources. And as a party in opposition, we don’t have resources, and that is where my candidature will be key to the completion of this rebuilding process,” he noted.

Mr. Nuntwiri Nuamah said his campaign is premised on one objective – to help mobilize both human and financial resources to secure Victory 2028.

“To ensure that Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia is elected one-touch as President in December 2028, and then also the party would regain its strength in Parliament as the majority party,” he stated.

Three Pillars

He outlined three key policies that will drive his tenure if elected National Treasurer.

First is the use of digitalisation to raise funds, second is restructuring the financial and dues systems of the party’s foreign and diaspora branches, and third is creating a welfare support system for party faithful.

Explaining the digital fundraising strategy, Mr. Nuntwiri Nuamah said under his leadership, party supporters would have the option to donate to the NPP directly through their mobile phones when buying airtime or sending mobile money.

“When you go on your phone to buy credit, if you are buying credit for 5 cedis, you will see the option ‘Support NPP 2028’ – 1 cedi, 2 cedis, 5 cedis, or others. So depending on your financial strength, if you want to support the party with 1 cedi, you buy credit for 5 cedis, you support with 1 cedi. Your wallet will be deducted 6 cedis. The 1 cedi will be credited to the national accounts of the NPP,” he explained.

He said a similar model would be introduced on mobile money platforms.

“When you are sending mobile money, you will also see the option to support NPP 2028. When you are sending 100 cedis to your family or your child at school, you will see the option donate to NPP 2028 – 10 cedis, 5 cedis, 20 cedis. If you press 10 cedis, the mobile company will deduct 110 cedis from you. The 10 cedis will be credited to the national accounts of the NPP.”

According to him, these micro-donations, when aggregated, would provide the party with sustainable funds to prosecute the 2028 campaign.

The second pillar, he said, focuses on reorganizing the financial contributions of the party’s external branches to make them more transparent and effective.

The third, and perhaps most personal to him, is the establishment of a welfare support system for party members who have sacrificed for the NPP over the years.

“Creating a welfare support system to support people who have worked for the party and have gotten themselves injured, or at their old age now they can’t even afford 100 cedis to buy blood pressure medication,” he said.

“Mobile texters, serial callers, grassroots, the aged who have worked for the party since ’92, and they cannot get 100 cedis a month to buy their blood pressure medication. This is where I come in,” he added.

Mr. Nuntwiri Nuamah said what differentiates him from other candidates is not just the usual talk about transparency, credibility and integrity, but a clear plan on how to raise money and how to spend it to benefit the grassroots.

“When somebody comes to you and tells you every financial person must be transparent, credible, with integrity and service, before all this, you must have the ability to tell party people how you are going to raise funds. And above all, once we raise the funds, we create the welfare support system to support the grassroots.”

He appealed to delegates to vote for him as National Treasurer, promising that under his watch, the party’s finances would be more secure and every member would benefit.
