Aowin Traditional Council Denounces Fake Press Statement, Calls for Release of Arrested Volunteers

The Aowin Traditional Council has issued a press release disassociating itself from a statement circulating on social media, purportedly issued by three individuals claiming to be gazetted chiefs of the council.

The council clarifies that the three individuals, Nana Kwojo Sikantia, Nana Kwame Nkanasa, and Nana Adade, are not members of the Aowin Traditional Council and are unknown in the Register of Chiefs.

The council’s registrar, Sheikhtisba Bampii, stated that the council is legitimately presided over by Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin III, who has been the Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area since March 2019.

The Aowin Traditional Council has expressed concern over the arrest of ten volunteers who were working to protect the area’s forests and water bodies against illegal mining activities. The volunteers, who were part of an anti-illegal mining task force established by the Aowin Traditional Authority in 2019, were arrested by NAIMOS.

The council is calling for the release of the arrested volunteers, stating that their absence has led to an increase in illegal mining activities in the area.

Kessbenonline Apologizes and Pulls Down Statement

Kessbenonline has apologized for erroneously publishing the fake press statement and has pulled down the statement from its website and social media platforms. The media outlet has rendered an unqualified apology to Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin III, Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area, and the Aowin Traditional Council for any inconvenience caused.
