Npp Leadership Holds Emergency Meeting Over Wontumi Court Judgement

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is currently in an emergency meeting with the Party’s Flagbearer and its legal team to review the recent court judgement involving Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The meeting is focused on the Samreboi mining case, in which the Accra High Court convicted Mr. Antwi-Boasiako on all six counts of illegal mining and sentenced him to 20 years’ imprisonment.

Party To Announce Next Steps

According to a statement from the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, Esq., the leadership is “thoroughly reviewing the judgement” to determine the appropriate next course of action.

“The Party will communicate its official position and the decisions arising from these deliberations in due course,” the statement said.

Call For Calm and Unity
Mr. Kodua urged NPP members to remain calm and supportive as the leadership engages on the matter.

“In the meantime, I respectfully urge all members of our great Party to rally behind the leadership during this challenging moment. Let us remain calm, united, disciplined, and steadfast in our commitment to the values and interests of the New Patriotic Party,” he added.

The emergency meeting comes hours after the High Court delivered its judgment in the Samreboi mining matter. The case has drawn significant public and political attention due to Mr. Antwi-Boasiako’s role as a senior party executive.

The NPP is expected to announce its official position, including any legal or political options, following the conclusion of the meeting.
