Your boss had an accident with the bus, why should we give it to you the apprentice? – Mahama to Bawumia
The former President has mocked the Vice President’s call for the mythical steer to lead the nation, saying the responsibility cannot be given to an inexperienced person.
The Vice President and flag bearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during his campaign tours, has asked that the mythical steer be given to him to lead the nation after referring to himself as a “mere driver’s mate” whom accountability cannot be demanded.
During an engagement with the media on Sunday, August 25, 2024, the Vice President repeated that the budget that has been approved by Parliament belongs to the President and not his.
Dr. Bawumia has therefore been calling for the mythical steering as a means of asking for Ghanaians’ votes in the December elections.
But according to John Mahama, until one passes an exam from the DVLA, he cannot be cleared to drive. He says driving a bus requires competence and not crying for a mythical steering like a baby who is demanding something from the mother.
During a rally at Ashaiman Tuesday, August 27, 2024, John Mahama teased that if his master ditched the bus in a bush, he cannot be trusted with it.
“Your master who is teaching you how to drive has gotten an accident with the bus and you are saying we should give the bus to you. No, we’ll rather give the steering to the experienced driver who has driven before to take over. So it’s not about crying like a little baby to be given a steering. Before you are given a steering, you go to DVLA, write a test and pass before you are given a license,” he stated.
By questioning his competence, Mahama lauded the NPP’s prowess in making promises they know they cannot fulfill, citing some of the ambitious promises the NPP made in 2016 and 2020 which never saw the light of day.
“They think Ghanaians are not level-headed so they say whatever they want during elections. ‘One million dollars for each constituency per year’, ‘Yɛte sika so, nanso ɛkɔm de yɛn’ (We are starving although we are sitting on wealth) when we come, everyone will be satisfied’ ‘we’ll provide a factory in each district for the youth to get jobs’, but they were all lies,” teased John Mahama.
“So, they think what they need to do is to say what Ghanaians would want to hear and give them the votes and do whatever they want. They won’t listen to anyone, the state coffers is at their disposal,” he added.
