19 drivers arrested in Central East MTTD crackdown on sirens, illegal lights and shoulder driving
Police seize unauthorised lamps and strip lights during Kasoa enforcement exercise

The Central East Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has arrested 19 drivers for traffic violations after intensifying enforcement on the Kasoa–Winneba and Kasoa–Bawjiase roads.
The operation, held at Krispo City Traffic Light and Kasoa New Market, targeted unauthorised use of sirens, strip lights, unapproved vehicle lamps, and driving on road shoulders and verges.
Breakdown of arrests
According to the Central East Regional Police Command, the 19 offenders were grouped as follows:
<span;><span;>- 3 drivers for abuse of sirens and strip lights
<span;><span;>- 10 drivers for using unapproved lamps
<span;><span;>- 6 drivers for driving on road shoulders
All offending drivers were sensitised, cautioned, and warned against repeat violations. Police removed, seized, and retained the unauthorised sirens, strip lights, and lamps for further action.
Safety over shortcuts
The MTTD says the exercise forms part of sustained efforts to promote discipline and safety on Ghana’s roads. Driving on shoulders, using sirens without authorisation, and fitting unapproved lights are all offences under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 L.I. 2180.
“These practices endanger other road users and create confusion on our roads,” the Command stated. “We will continue enforcement alongside public education to ensure compliance.”
Warning to motorists
The Central East Regional Police Command is urging all motorists to comply with road traffic regulations. Drivers using illegal sirens, flashy strip lights, or extra lamps not approved by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority risk arrest and seizure of equipment.
With Kasoa recording heavy traffic daily, MTTD says similar operations will continue across the region to curb indiscipline and reduce crashes.
