NPP Russia Branch Election In Crisis As Council Of Elders Chairman Disowns Process
The election of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Russia Branch has been thrown into confusion after the Chairman of the Council of Elders and member of the Electoral Committee, Kobe Oduro, disowned the process currently underway.
In a strongly-worded statement issued on 27/08/2026, Mr. Oduro said he and another member of the Electoral Committee have been deliberately excluded from key discussions and decisions concerning the organization of the election, contrary to the mandate given to the committee to ensure a fair, transparent and credible process.
He raised particular concern over the use of a voters register that he says was not discussed, verified or agreed upon by the Electoral Committee.
“A voters register is a fundamental part of any credible election. It cannot be introduced, altered, or replaced without proper consultation and agreement among those entrusted with supervising the electoral process,” he stated.
Mr. Oduro said he cannot take responsibility for an electoral outcome in which he has not been meaningfully involved, stressing that his position is based on principles of fairness, transparency and respect for established procedures, and not personal interest.
He further disclosed that an election was already conducted on 8 August 2026, and that the results of that election shall be made known to members of the Branch.
“Therefore, should the current process proceed without the proper involvement of the Electoral Committee and with a voters register that has not been duly agreed upon by the Branch Executives and the committee, I will not accept responsibility for the outcome of such a process,” he said.
“For the avoidance of doubt, should matters proceed in this manner, my position is that I will only recognize and abide by the results of the election conducted on 8 August.”
He has therefore called for the restoration of the proper electoral process, full involvement of all members of the Electoral Committee, and proper consultation on the voters register.
“The credibility of the election must take precedence over individual interests. No electoral process can be considered genuinely fair when those constitutionally or administratively entrusted with supervising it are deliberately excluded from the process,” the statement added.
In a final pointed remark, Mr. Oduro said: “You cannot come to our branch to breach the constitution and turn around to accept the election result. As members of the branch we do not recognize that election and the so-called illegal executive. NPP is bigger than any individual and we will protect NPP.”
The development deepens the rift within the NPP Russia Branch as factions battle over the legitimacy of the branch elections.
