If Polo thinks I’m not the best, he should come to my house & take the award, He does not even come close to Ghana’s GOAT ‘debate’ – Abdul Razak fires back at Mohammed Polo

“Golden Boy Abdul Razak” has replied to recent remarks made by fellow football icon Mohammed Polo, questioning the merit of Razak’s 1978 African Footballer of the Year award.
Speaking in an interview with Tony Muntana on Kessben TV, Razak did not hold back, asserting that if Polo truly believes the award was undeserved, “he should come for it at his own residence.
Razak’s comments come on the heels of Polo suggesting in an interview with Kessben TV that Razak was unfairly handed the continent’s top football honor in 1978. Polo, also a member of Ghana’s golden football generation, implied that he was more deserving of the accolade that year.
“Polo talks as if he’s the best,” Razak said. “But in the history of Ghana football, he does not come close to the GOAT level. He must understand that greatness is not declared by oneself; it is earned, and the people will decide.”
Razak, who was instrumental in Ghana’s 1978 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, where he scored crucial goals and delivered outstanding performances throughout the tournament, said his record speaks for itself. That historic campaign remains a landmark moment in Ghanaian football, and Razak’s performances earned him the ultimate individual accolade on the continent.
He emphasized that he has never been one to boast. “I don’t blow my own horn,” Razak remarked. “I leave that to the public and the journalists to judge. The records are there. Let people decide who was the best.”
The seeming feud between two of Ghana’s most technically gifted players of the 1970s has stirred debate among football fans, many of whom have immense respect for both legends. While Razak was known for his explosive pace, intelligent positioning, and clutch performances, Polo dazzled crowds with his dribbling and flair, earning the nickname “The Dribbling Magician.”
However, the 1978 African Footballer of the Year title remains officially Abdul Razak’s, and he appears unwilling to let Polo or anyone else rewrite that piece of football history.
