Government assures tax waiver to clear Heal Kath Projects items locked up at port – chairman
The Chairman of Heal Komfo Anokye Project, Mr Samuel Adu Boakye has indicated government intervention to clear some of the project items from the port.
The Heal Komfo Anokye Project aimed at renovating the 70-year-old Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi has suffered a setback following the inability of the project to clear some of the building materials from the ports.
The consignment of imported tiles meant for the project has been locked up at the Tema Harbour accruing demurrage.
The project is to pay more than GH¢1.7 million in duties to clear 10 containers of tiles meant for the project.
However, in an interview with newsmen, on a news sideline during the presentation of GHS 220,000, from Kumasi Market women to support the project, the chairman for Heal Komfo Anokye Project stressed that the government has assured them to grant tax waiver to enable them to clear the projects from the port after writing officially to the Finance Ministry for assistance.
Mr. Sammy Adu Boakye didn’t give a timeline as to when the items will be cleared but was optimistic that, the government will walk with his talk to obtain the locked-up items for the project.
