Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover has urged the government to consider the livelihoods and investments affected by the demolition of structures within the Laboma enclave of the Kpeshie Lagoon.

The demolitions, carried out on Sunday, September 13, form part of efforts to reclaim waterways and address flooding in parts of the Greater Accra Region.

Mr Glover said the exercise could lead to job losses and affect businesses that have invested significantly in the area over the years.

He called on the government to consider alternative technical solutions before demolishing structures where substantial investments and livelihoods are involved.

“Let’s look at these things with a human face. Government cannot provide jobs. There are a lot of people who are asking for jobs,” he said.

He noted that many young people and graduates struggle to find employment, making private businesses and investments important sources of jobs.

Mr Glover, however, said he would support the government’s efforts to remove structures deliberately built on waterways.

“I will support the government where people have deliberately built on waterways,” he added.
