- The incident happened on Thursday at the DCE’s office when the Assemblyman had gone to see him on how best angry youth in the area could be restrained following the chief of the area selling lands which have been designated as proposed site for construction of a new market.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Friday, Mr Owusu stated that he was shocked by the conduct of the DCE as he reacted violently when he had not been unprovoked.
“As soon as I entered his office and greeted him, he angrily shouted at me to leave his office, being a thick and tall person he held me and hit me at the door amidst appeals by his secretarial staff to let off me. I suffered bruises on my body and I’ve been to the hospital for treatment.”
He said he strongly suspects that the DCE’s anger at him was based on recent attempt to pass a vote of no confidence against him by assembly members, which he said the DCE suspects he has a hand in.
But Hon. Asare Bediako in a sharp rebuttal refuted the allegations against him. He had to ask the assemblyman to leave his office since he suspected the latter of having an ulterior motive.
“Due to some recent happenings, upon security advice I have monitoring device in my office. I saw this man taking something from his pocket and putting it back just before he entered my office. Not sure of what he had in his pocket I couldn’t have let him into my office and so I asked him to leave and promised I’ll get back to him. Beating someone is the last thing I will do in my life”.
However Mr Owusu said all he had in his pocket was his mobile phone and a diary he held.
“If you claim you CCTV cameras and so you saw my movement and suspected I could do anything crominal, why didn’t you call the police and rather chose to manhandle me. To be honest I recorded with my phone, everything that transpired when I met him. I’m greatly shocked by the DCE’s denial. This is why sometimes people are compelled to curse others” the assemblyman added.
But the DCE stressed that the revelation that he recorded the engagement indicates that he the assemblyman came to his office with ill motives.
He said his office is opened to all as he is in office to serve the good people of Atwima Nwabiagya, however since he doesn’t take his security lightly, he will act whenever he thinks his security is at stake.
The assembly man disclosed that he had made a formal complaint against the DCE to the police.
