25-year-old Jonathan Mensah will be a free agent when his Evian FC deal runs out in four months time
Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah is Swansea City’s number one summer target, according to reports.
The international centre-back could be available on a free as his contract with French Ligue 2 side Evian FC is due to run out at the end of the current campaign.
The 25-year-old has played little first team football this season, having been banned from playing for four months after FIFA ruled he was still contracted to Udinese when joining Evian for a free in 2011.
Swansea City Head Coach Francesco Guidolin will be aware of the player, who was on Udinese’s books when the Italian took charge in 2010. Mensah never appeared for him that season, however, spending some time on loan at one of the other Pozzo clubs, Granada.
Since then, however, he has made himself a regular in the Ghana international side.
He played every minute of Ghana’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations campaign as they lost the final in a penalty shootout to Ivory Coast.
According to reports, Swansea are one of a number of clubs who have been scouting the 6ft 2in defender.
He has made 45 league appearances for Evian since 2011, and has 36 Ghana caps, scoring one goal.
