President Mahama: Govt to fast-track development of six newly created regions

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans by his government to fast-track development in Ghana’s six newly created regions, with a focus on providing them with the infrastructure and amenities needed to support their growth.

According to President Mahama, the new regions face significant development gaps compared to the country’s more established regions, making targeted government investment necessary to accelerate their transformation.

Speaking during an eengagement with the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, President Mahama said the six regions were important to Ghana’s overall development but required additional attention because they were relatively new and lacked some critical public facilities.

“We all know our new regions are very important regions, but they are new regions, and so unlike the established regions, they lack so many amenities,” he said.

He explained that the government had therefore made the accelerated development of the regions a priority under its development programme.

President Mahama said government was working to ensure that ongoing projects and other programmes were implemented at a faster pace to address infrastructure and development needs in the affected regions.

He added that the government’s approach was not only to establish the new administrative regions but also to equip them with the necessary facilities to enable residents to enjoy improved public services and economic opportunities.

The President said his administration would continue to engage stakeholders in the regions to identify key development priorities and ensure that government interventions respond to the needs of local communities.

The six regions created in 2019 are Ahafo, Bono East, North East, Oti, Savannah and Western North.
