Group writes to Mahama to remove EC boss

Leader of the Progressive Nationalist Forum (PNF) Richard Nyamah has revealed he has written to President John Mahama to relieve EC boss Charlotte Osei from the job.

The petition which was filed on Thursday February 18 comes on the back of claims by the group that Mrs Osei has violated the constitution by holding another office of benefit while serving as chair of the electoral body.

The group has alleged that Mrs Osei long after taking up the job as the head of the EC still served on the board of the Ghana Reinsurance company Limited.

Even though officials of the insurance company have said she left the job before her appointment to the EC, the group maintains she violated the laws of the land.

In a statement Thursday, Nyamah said “ He takes the view that the EC boss’s belated resignation from Ghana Reinsurance Company Limited (a Limited Liability Company with 100% Ghana government shareholding) smacks of an admission of the breach of the prohibition of Article 44(4) of the Constitution”.

The statement continued: “He seeks to exercise his right as a citizen to uphold the Constitution against such acts of serious misconduct, and looks forward to demonstrate that she exercised grave misjudgment and violated the Constitutional requirements of her office with “terms and conditions of service as a Justice of the Court of Appeal” and is therefore no longer fit to remain in that august office.

“The best interest of Ghana must always be served by all citizens”.
