Volta NDC youth threaten mass demo, defection
Youths in the Volta Region aligned to the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) have vowed to embark on a massive demonstration on Tuesday July 14, 2015.
The demo, under the auspices of a group calling itself Disappointed Youth of NDC, is to protest among other things the harsh economic conditions and massive corruption in the Mahama-led administration.
The group’s chairman Robert Tetteyfoi Adjase said they want to prove to government that the people of the Volta region cannot be taken for granted.
He indicated that the people in the Volta region, especially NDC members, were better off under the Kufuor government.
“We are suffering under our own government and we don’t see why we should remain in the NDC so we are crossing over to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP),” he stressed.
Robert Adjase called on all Ghanaians who are disappointed in the NDC government to join them in the demonstration.
Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Police Operation Commander for Ho, Chief Superintendent Ebenezer Kweku Asare said they are yet to grant them permission for the protest.
He explained that the security situation in the area is volatile and police will meet with the youth to discuss the way forward.
