European Union Backs Ghana Labour Exchange Programme, Says It Will Open Doors to Jobs Abroad for Young Ghanaians

Representative of the European Union, Silvia Tizzi, has praised the newly launched Ghana Labour Exchange Programme, describing it as a major opportunity for young Ghanaians seeking decent employment abroad while promoting ethical labour migration.

Speaking at the launch of the programme, organised by NAYT Consult in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment (MYDE) and the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment (MLJE), Ms. Tizzi said the initiative would help connect skilled Ghanaian workers with employment opportunities overseas through credible international partnerships.

According to her, the programme goes beyond job placement by focusing on professional preparation, worker protection and long-term career development.
She noted that the initiative could also generate significant benefits for Ghana through increased remittances, skills transfer and national development.

She stressed that the European Union shares Ghana’s commitment to promoting ethical labour migration across Europe, ensuring that labour mobility benefits both migrants and destination countries.
She explained that demographic changes and evolving labour market demands across Europe are creating shortages in several sectors, a trend expected to continue in the coming years.
“This must be approached with responsibility and high standards,” she said, emphasizing the need for sound labour migration governance, ethical recruitment practices and strong professional standards.

Ms. Tizzi commended Ghana for demonstrating commitment and maturity in strengthening ethical migration policies and government leadership in the sector.
She further pledged the European Union’s continued support for Ghana’s efforts to build a transparent, well-regulated labour migration system that creates safe and sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth while meeting international standards.
