Lawyer Faisal Ibrahim Cisse Earns LLM in International Trade Law from Switzerland, Returns Home Amid Klottey Korle NPP Chairmanship Race

Ghanaian lawyer and New Patriotic Party executive Faisal Ibrahim Cisse graduated yesterday with a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Trade and Investment Law, capping off nearly 10 months of study in Switzerland.

Cisse also earned an Advanced Diploma in International Politics and Economics, wrapping up a program he began in September 2025. Well-wishers back home in Ghana tuned in to celebrate with him as the ceremony was streamed live via Zoom.

The achievement comes at a pivotal moment. Cisse returned to Ghana today while facing uncertainty over his application to contest for the NPP Klottey Korle Constituency Chairman position this July, after the Vetting Committee scrapped the online vetting option for aspirants abroad.

“Specialist Knowledge for Ghana’s Growth”
In an exclusive online interview today, Cisse said his new qualification will directly shape his contribution to both national policy and party strategy.

“I acquired specialist knowledge in trade policy formulation and execution that achieves economic growth and employment for the people,” he stated. “I am passionate about building the youth in trade and specialist services which earn decent incomes and careers. The new knowledge will help me achieve just that.”

At the party level, Cisse disclosed that he has already been appointed to the NPP’s Trade, Industry and SME Policies Committee. “I will contribute to the development of alternative trade policies for the party,” he added.

From Deputy Secretary to Chairman Hopeful
Cisse currently serves as the outgoing Deputy Secretary for the NPP in Klottey Korle Constituency. His bid for the Chairmanship has drawn attention after the Committee’s recent decision to cancel virtual vetting, a move that left his eligibility unclear while he was still in Switzerland.

Despite the challenge, his supporters say the LLM strengthens his credentials as a policy-driven candidate who can bridge law, trade, and party organization.

Beyond politics, Cisse is a practicing lawyer, social advocate, and proud father. He emphasized that his return to Ghana marks a renewed commitment to public service.

“Ghana needs relevant and timely policies. My focus is to help deliver them,” he said.

With the Klottey Korle constituency vetting still pending, party members now watch to see whether the newly-minted trade law expert will be cleared to officially join the Chairmanship race.
