We Need Proper Engineers at the Town and Planning Offices – Kwasi Mensah
Kwasi Mensah has raised concern on the flooding issues in Ghana on 29th June, 2026.
Speaking live on the Kessben Maakye show, Kwasi Mensah expressed concern over the recurring flooding in Accra. In his view, the Ministry of Sanitation and the Ministry of Environment ought to be better equipped to handle the country’s sanitation and flooding challenges.
“Presidential candidates should add to their manifestos; ‘overhaul of the national waste management system.
’”
He stressed the need for proper developers and planners to assist in addressing Accra’s drainage challenges. He noted that the country needs proper engineers who can design and implement effective drainage systems capable of withstanding the city’s seasonal rains.
Mensah observed that the country has, for years, relied on basic measures such as clearing gutters and sweeping debris, but argued that this approach is no longer enough. He called for the involvement of structural engineers to think more deeply about long-term solutions, including systems that can channel waste and excess water deep into the ground rather than allowing it to accumulate on the surface.
