The Managing Editor -Hawk Newspaper , Charles McCarthy has alleged that one of the key reasons behind the removal of former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko was his decision to organize National Council meetings at Alisa Hotel instead of the party’s headquarters.
Making his assertion on Kessben Maakye show in Accra, McCarthy insisted the NPP headquarters lacked the capacity to accommodate the large number of participants who attend National Council meetings, making Alisa Hotel a more practical venue.
He also questioned the silence of senior members of the party over yesterday`s protest at Alisa Hotel to expel Ken Agyapong from the opposition NPP, querrying, “If today you find five hired men doing this, one would ask, where are the wise men?”
McCarthy further recalled that when Kennedy Agyapong publicly criticized and insulted party leadership in the past, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former National Chairman Freddie Blay prevented disciplinary action against him, arguing that he was an important asset to the party.
He contrasted that with the treatment of former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong after his recent remarks about the party’s inability to continue Afari Military Hospital project in their eight year term in office was his opinion and should not be equated with insulting the NPP.
McCarthy also claimed that some party executives like Abronye and Paul Andoh who recently defended Goldbod corruption allegations were not sanctioned, questioning what he described as selective enforcement of party discipline.
Touching on the recent disturbances at Alisa Hotel, he maintained that while party members had the right to submit petitions, they had no right to forcibly remove anyone from the party’s. He added that the hotel’s security personnel were within their rights to protect the premises from what he described as hooliganism.
His comments come amid growing debate within the NPP over internal discipline, party unity, and the handling of recent confrontations at the National Council meeting.
