Fake mattresses in the Ghanaian market: Our institutions, which are supposed to check those things, are just not doing their work – Fante Quoo laments
Concerns over the quality and safety of some mattresses sold in Ghana have sparked public debate after revelations emerged that certain low-quality mattresses are allegedly being stuffed with unsuitable materials. The issue was strongly criticized by Quoo Fante, host of the drive-time show on Kessben FM.
Speaking passionately on his program, Quoo Fante lamented what he described as the failure of regulatory institutions to properly monitor and enforce standards within the manufacturing sector. According to him, some mattress producers are using cheap and potentially harmful materials to cut costs, putting consumers at risk.
He questioned the effectiveness of state institutions responsible for quality control and consumer protection, arguing that many products continue to reach the market without proper inspection.
“This is dangerous to public health, yet the institutions that are supposed to protect Ghanaians are not doing their jobs,” he reportedly stated during the broadcast.
The revelations have triggered concerns among consumers, with many calling for stricter enforcement measures and regular inspections of factories producing household goods. Industry observers say the issue highlights broader challenges in Ghana’s regulatory system, where weak enforcement often allows substandard products to circulate freely.
Consumer advocacy groups are now urging authorities to investigate the claims and ensure that manufacturers adhere to approved safety and quality standards to protect the public.
