Kumasi: 3 remanded over alleged lynching at Kumasi’s Sabon Zongo
The Asokore Mampong District Court has remanded three men into police custody over their alleged involvement in the lynching of Yusuf Zakari at Sabon Zongo in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
The accused — Moses Adoko, 37, a plumber; Abubakari Adams, 25, a herdsman; and Nurudeen Suleman, 35, a motor mechanic — are facing charges in connection with the incident.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations suggest that Zakari was allegedly attacked by a group of individuals at a cattle kraal in Sabon Zongo during the early hours of July 19, 2026.
Police said the victim suffered severe injuries and was initially taken to the Manhyia Government Hospital before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The three suspects were subsequently brought before the Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Her Worship Mrs. Hilder Esther Wryter. The court ordered that they remain in police custody and adjourned the case to August 7, 2026.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the alleged attack.
The police urged the public to avoid mob justice and instead report suspected criminal activities through the appropriate legal channels. They also appealed to anyone with relevant information to visit the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 191, 112, or the MTN toll-free line 18555.
The Command assured the public that all individuals found to have been involved in the incident would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
