“32 Years, Same Vote, Same Results” – PAG’s Dr. John Kpikpi Urges Ghanaians to Rethink Political Loyalty Ahead of 2028

The Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Alliance for Ghana (PAG), Dr. John Kpikpi, has made a bold call for Ghanaians to break away from decades-long voting patterns, arguing that loyalty without accountability has left communities underdeveloped.

Dr. Kpikpi made the remarks in Accra when members of the Taviefe Youth Movement paid a courtesy call on him. The visit followed his attendance at the Taviefe Youth Movement’s Easter Homecoming celebration in the Volta Region earlier this year.

“We’ve been voting the same way over 32 years now, and we’re not getting anything out of it,” Dr. Kpikpi told the youth delegation. “The Volta Region has been very, very faithful to the National Democratic Congress, so faithful that they’ve been taken for granted. When you keep doing the same thing over and over again without getting results, and you want a different result, then you have to change what you do.”

The PAG flagbearer argued that both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have failed to significantly alter Ghana’s development trajectory since the return to democratic rule in 1992. He positioned PAG as the viable alternative for voters seeking tangible change in 2028.

Agriculture: The Key to Community Wealth*

Beyond politics, Dr. Kpikpi laid out agriculture as the cornerstone of his development vision, particularly for rural communities like Taviefe that have vast tracts of arable land but remain economically stagnant.

“Agriculture alone, if it is looked after and attended to very well, can transform the status of wealth in a whole community,” he said. “There is plenty of land in this area, and if they embrace agriculture, rice, chicken and all that, they can begin to take bold steps and see their communities transform even before we come into power.”

He urged the youth to take ownership of farming as a business rather than a last resort, stressing that with the right knowledge, training, and government support, agriculture could drive Ghana’s journey toward food self-sufficiency and job creation.

Dr. Kpikpi said a PAG government would prioritize agricultural financing, mechanization, and market access to ensure farmers earn decent incomes and communities become self-reliant.

Unity and Peace as Foundations for Progress

The PAG leader also addressed the need for national unity and reconciliation, particularly in areas still affected by longstanding communal disputes. He said no meaningful development could occur without justice and social cohesion.

“There is hope for peace and unity and progress,” he said. “I see the time is very near when all the old conflicts and debilitating issues will be left behind, and people will embrace a brand new future with happiness and joy. Without justice, conflict will always continue, so we are looking forward to a very just decision that will help people accept one another and work together.”

He commended the Taviefe Youth Movement for promoting unity through their Easter Homecoming activities and encouraged them to continue leading efforts to bring people together despite divisions.

“The youth must lead the charge in healing old wounds. If the youth embrace peace, the entire community will follow,” he added.

A Message to the Volta Region

Dr. Kpikpi’s engagement with the Taviefe Youth Movement in Accra forms part of PAG’s broader outreach to connect with grassroots communities ahead of the 2028 general elections. His message in the Volta Region, a traditional stronghold of the NDC, signals PAG’s intent to challenge the status quo and appeal to voters frustrated with unfulfilled promises.

He concluded by calling on Ghanaians to judge political parties not by slogans or history, but by what they have delivered over time.

The Taviefe Youth Movement thanked Dr. Kpikpi for his commitment to youth empowerment and community development, and for welcoming them during their visit to Accra.

With the 2028 elections still two years away, PAG is positioning itself as a third force in Ghanaian politics, focusing on agriculture, justice, and unity as its campaign pillars.
