The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demanded urgent action from government and security agencies over the alleged abduction of a Dambai resident, Fuseini Mohammed, who has been missing for almost ten months.
At a second media engagement in Dambai in the Oti Region on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said the continued disappearance of Mr. Mohammed raises serious concerns about security, justice and public confidence in state institutions.
The disappearance
According to the NPP, Mr. Fuseini Mohammed was reportedly abducted on the night of 21 October 2025 at about 9:00 p.m. while travelling home on a motorbike with his pregnant wife after closing from their shop.
Mr. Kodua said of particular concern is the reported location of the incident – approximately 50 metres from the residence of the Oti Regional Minister.
“Today, almost ten months after his disappearance, the fundamental questions remain unanswered: Where is Fuseini Mohammed? Who took him? Why has no person been brought to justice in connection with his disappearance?” he asked.
He said for the family, it is ten months of uncertainty and anguish, while for the people of Dambai, it raises concerns about personal safety and confidence in the security architecture of the region.
Circumstances requiring answers
The NPP General Secretary said the circumstances surrounding the incident make the apparent lack of progress difficult to understand.
He noted that the party is informed that the incident occurred along a principal route in Dambai, the ferry was not operational at the time, thereby restricting movement into and out of Dambai, and the available route towards Nkwanta Junction covered about eight kilometres with three security checkpoints operating at night.
“If these accounts are accurate, legitimate questions arise as to how the perpetrators could have allegedly abducted a citizen, transported him through or out of the area, and apparently escaped detection,” Mr. Kodua stated.
Questions for government and security agencies
The NPP is demanding answers from government, the Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and relevant law enforcement agencies on:
1. The current status of the investigation and specific steps taken since 21 October 2025.
2. What has been done with information and leads provided by residents and potential witnesses.
3. Whether CCTV footage from the vicinity and relevant routes on the night of the incident was retrieved, preserved and subjected to forensic analysis, noting there was no power outage at the time.
4. Whether records from the three security checkpoints along the route were examined and officers on duty interviewed.
5. What role REGSEC has played in coordinating the investigation.
Security must not depend on status
Mr. Kodua stressed that every Ghanaian life has equal value and security cannot be a privilege reserved for political office holders.
“If the person who had disappeared under these circumstances had been a senior government official, a Metropolitan, Municipal or District Chief Executive, a Regional Minister or another politically exposed person, would the matter have remained unresolved for almost ten months without a publicly communicated breakthrough?” he questioned.
He called on civil society organisations, traditional authorities, religious leaders, the media and human-rights organisations to join the demand for a thorough, professional and transparent investigation.
“Our demand is straightforward: Find Fuseini Mohammed. Establish the truth surrounding his disappearance. Identify and prosecute anyone found responsible,” he said.
Call to President Mahama
The NPP also called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that the appropriate security and investigative agencies accord the case urgency.
“The people of Dambai must be able to go about their lawful activities without fear. Above all, the family of Fuseini Mohammed deserves answers. After almost ten months, silence and uncertainty can no longer be accepted as substitutes for an effective investigation,” Mr. Kodua added.
He concluded: “Where is Fuseini Mohammed? This is the question his family is asking. This is the question the people of Dambai are asking. And today, this is the question the New Patriotic Party is asking.”
