Mahama links agrotech to ‘Feed Ghana Programme’, calls agriculture engine of growth

President John Dramani Mahama has linked the development of agricultural technology to the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, emphasizing that modern agriculture is central to national economic transformation.

Speaking at the opening of the Ghana Agrotech Fair 2026, President Mahama noted that the fair showcases innovations that can turn policy commitments into tangible results for farmers and agribusinesses.

“This fair aligns closely with the priorities of my government’s Feed Ghana Program and the broader Agriculture for Economic Transformation agenda,” he said. “These initiatives are built on a clear conviction: agriculture must no longer be treated solely as a subsistence sector, but as a strategic pillar of national economic growth, industrial expansion, and export development.”

President Mahama stressed that the future of agriculture lies in modernizing the entire value chain—from production to processing, logistics, and global marketing.

“The technology, the tools, machinery, and solutions being showcased at this fair represent precisely the innovations needed to translate these policy commitments into real results for farmers and agribusiness,” he said.

He highlighted government initiatives such as the Modernising Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) Programme and the Ghana Agricultural Sector Investment Program (GASIP) as deliberate investments in productivity, rural enterprise development, and value chain integration.

“Our agenda focuses on strengthening agricultural value chains, expanding agro-processing capacity, reducing post-harvest losses, improving market access, increasing farmer productivity and incomes, and positioning Ghanaian agribusinesses to compete globally,” Mahama added.

The President also encouraged young people, entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors to actively participate in the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector.

“To our entrepreneurs and manufacturers, continue to build and scale solutions made in Ghana, for Africa. To our young people, agriculture is not a sector of the past; it is one of the frontiers of our future,” he said.

President Mahama concluded that by linking agrotech innovations to the Feed Ghana Program, Ghana can build a modern, competitive, technology-driven agricultural economy capable of feeding the nation, supporting industry, and generating export revenue.
