NDC played politics with the cocoa price increment when they came to power, and they are now facing the reality – Maxwell Ofusu Boakye, Former Suame MCE

Maxwell Ofusu Boakye, former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he describes as political handling of cocoa price promises now facing harsh realities.
Speaking on Kessben FM during a discussion with host Wofa Kofi Appiah, Ofosu Boakye accused the governing party of “playing politics” with cocoa price increments when it was in opposition and failing to deliver once in power.
The issue centres on campaign pledges and subsequent pricing decisions affecting the producer price paid to Ghana’s cocoa farmers. During the 2024 election campaign, NDC leaders had vowed to significantly raise cocoa prices, including promises to align producer prices more closely with global market levels and to deliver substantial increases from the then-current rates. Critics highlighted that the opposition used these cocoa price commitments to gain support in cocoa-growing areas.
Since taking office, the NDC government has implemented only modest price increases relative to earlier rhetoric, leading to frustrations among farmers and political opponents alike.
