Ghana’s Ambassador to Brazil, H.E. Nii Amasah Namoale, Esq., has paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of Chile in Brasília His Excellency Issa Kort as part of Ghana’s diplomatic push to secure international backing for its re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
The meeting, held today, forms part of a broader campaign by Ghana to rally support among UN member states for its bid to continue contributing to the work of the Council.
During the engagement, Ambassador Namoale outlined Ghana’s longstanding commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, democratic governance, the rule of law, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
He noted that Ghana views the Human Rights Council as a critical multilateral platform that must remain credible, inclusive and effective in advancing universal human rights and fundamental freedoms across the world.
According to the Ambassador, Ghana’s track record both at home and within the multilateral system demonstrates its principled stance on human dignity and its readiness to contribute constructively to global human rights governance.
Ambassador Namoale formally appealed to Chile for its support for Ghana’s re-election bid, while emphasizing the importance of sustained cooperation between Ghana and Chile within the United Nations and other multilateral frameworks.
Beyond the UNHRC campaign, the meeting also served to reinforce the cordial and longstanding relations between Ghana and Chile. Both envoys explored avenues for deeper bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly in areas of shared interest within the international system.
Ghana is currently campaigning for re-election to continue its service on the 47-member UN Human Rights Council, the UN’s principal body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the globe and for addressing human rights violations.
The campaign reflects Accra’s determination to strengthen its voice within the international human rights architecture and to continue playing a constructive role in shaping global responses to emerging human rights challenges — from conflict-related abuses to climate justice and digital rights.
Ghana’s message, as articulated during the Brasília engagement, is clear: principled diplomacy, respect for human dignity, and multilateral cooperation remain at the heart of the country’s foreign policy.
The Embassy of Ghana in Brazil says it will continue its engagements with other diplomatic missions in Brasília in the coming weeks as part of the coordinated effort to secure broad support for Ghana’s candidacy.
