Ghana Police Service Receives 40 Armoured Vehicles to Boost Security

The Ghana Police Service has received 40 special purpose armoured vehicles to enhance the safety of officers and improve operational efficiency. The vehicles were handed over by President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, in a ceremony attended by the Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Inspector-General of Police, and other senior officials.

The vehicles comprise 15 armoured pick-up vehicles, 20 COBRA-3, and 5 COBRA-4 high-grade armoured vehicles, which will improve the mobility, safety, and resilience of police officers, particularly in high-risk operations.

Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, expressed gratitude to the President and government for prioritizing the welfare of police officers. “The use of these vehicles will go a long way to enhance officers’ safety, improve operational efficiency and ensure a high level of security across the country,” he said.

Interior Minister’s Speech
In a speech, Minister Muntaka emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening internal security and protecting citizens. “The Handing over of these 40 advanced armoured vehicles is not merely the presentation of new equipment—it is a declaration of purpose and a practical demonstration of this Government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the Republic,” he said.

He urged police officers to use the vehicles responsibly and professionally, and warned against attacks on security personnel. “These attacks must stop. They have no place in a civilised society. They have no justification. And with the enhanced capabilities we commission today, they must become a thing of the past,” he said.
