President Mahama Holds Strategic Meeting with UN Secretary-General Guterres at UNGA

President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana met with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday on the sidelines of the ongoing 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The high-level engagement marks the second encounter between the two leaders within a month, underscoring the strengthening diplomatic ties between Ghana and the United Nations system.
The meeting comes as world leaders gather in New York for the annual General Assembly, where critical global challenges including climate change, sustainable development, peace and security, and multilateral cooperation dominate the agenda.
President Mahama, who returned to office earlier this year, has been actively engaging with international partners to advance Ghana’s foreign policy objectives and contribute to global governance initiatives. His previous diplomatic experience and Ghana’s traditional role as a champion of pan-Africanism and multilateralism position the West African nation as an important voice in international affairs.
Secretary-General Guterres, who has consistently emphasized the importance of African leadership in addressing global challenges, has maintained regular dialogue with African heads of state as the UN works to implement its reform agenda and respond to emerging crises.
The meeting reflects Ghana’s continued commitment to multilateralism and its active participation in the United Nations system, where the country has historically played a constructive role in promoting international peace and security.
