Accra, Ghana: Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG) has opened opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaboration ahead of the 2027 edition of the HRRG Global RightsShield Awards, an international honours programme established to recognize exceptional leadership and outstanding contributions to human rights and social transformation.
The announcement follows the successful inaugural edition of the Awards, which was held in Abuja, Nigeria, in July 2026.
The HRRG Global RightsShield Awards recognize individuals and institutions whose leadership, service, courage, innovation and commitment have contributed meaningfully to human rights, democracy, justice, peace, inclusion, sustainable development and human dignity across Africa and beyond.
HRRG Opens the Awards to Global Collaboration
As preparations for the 2027 edition get underway, HRRG is inviting credible organizations, civil society networks, institutions, media organizations, universities, foundations, development actors, corporate bodies, professionals and other stakeholders to explore opportunities for collaboration.
The organization says the partnership initiative is aimed at strengthening the Awards’ international visibility, regional outreach, stakeholder participation and overall impact.
According to HRRG, partnership does not necessarily require financial support.
Prospective partners may contribute through professional expertise, networks, institutional connections, nominations outreach, media visibility, technical assistance, knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization, sponsorship or in-kind support.
Various Partnership Opportunities
HRRG has identified several possible forms of collaboration, including Strategic Partnerships, Civil Society Partnerships, Knowledge Partnerships, Institutional Partnerships, Media and Communications Partnerships, Regional and International Outreach Partnerships, and Sponsoring Partnerships.
Strategic and institutional partners may support the programme through networks, expertise and stakeholder engagement, while civil society organizations may assist with nominations outreach, advocacy and regional participation.
Universities, research institutions and professional bodies may contribute research, technical expertise and knowledge, while media and communications organizations may support publicity, storytelling, interviews and digital visibility.
Individuals and organizations with strong regional or international networks may also collaborate as outreach partners by connecting HRRG with credible stakeholders within their countries or regions.
Independence of the Awards
HRRG has emphasized that the Global RightsShield Awards will remain an independent programme despite the expansion of partnerships.
The Awards are conceived, founded, owned, organized and administered by Human Rights Reporters Ghana.
HRRG will retain responsibility for the governance, administration, programme direction and integrity of the Awards.
The organization says nominations, assessments and final selections will be conducted through an independent and transparent process guided by established governance principles, ethical standards and merit-based evaluation criteria.
Partners may support outreach and recommend deserving individuals or institutions, but no partner will be guaranteed an award or permitted to influence the independent selection process.
More Than an Awards Programme
HRRG says the Global RightsShield Awards are intended to go beyond an annual awards ceremony.
The organization envisions the initiative as an international platform for recognizing impact, connecting changemakers and amplifying positive contributions to society.
Through broader partnerships, HRRG hopes to facilitate cross-border networking, knowledge exchange, stakeholder engagement and greater recognition for individuals and institutions contributing to positive social change.
Invitation to Prospective Partners
HRRG is particularly interested in working with partners who can contribute networks, expertise, regional reach, institutional connections, visibility, technical support, sponsorship, resource mobilization or other meaningful forms of collaboration.
The organization says partnership arrangements will be discussed individually based on the prospective partner’s interests, capacity, geographical reach and area of expertise.
