A leading member and former Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Abankwa Yeboah, has officially declared his intention to contest for the First National Vice Chairman position in the NPP’s upcoming national executive elections.
Speaking to the Daily Searchlight newspaper, Dr. Yeboah said he is confident of victory and believes he stands above his contenders for the role.
“Am Better Placed Than My Competitors to Lead NPP,” he stated.
“God Directed Me to This Position”
Dr. Yeboah revealed that he initially wanted to contest for National Chairman but said he stepped back after what he described as divine direction.
He claims God leads him in all his decisions, and that this is the appropriate position and time for him to announce his intention.
“I have the records to buttress my point, conviction and belief. I have assiduously worked for the party over the years, and I dare say am undisputably better, and taller than most of the competitors,” he said.
He added that his politics has been one of “decency, honesty devoid of any impropriety and acrimony.”
“Am not after money or wealth but to serve my party and the country selflessly. Those who do politics because of wealth are there, but I have a different agenda in doing politics; just to serve the people, after all that is the prime objective of every honest and decent politician.”
Tough Stance on Party Finances
The former Treasurer said during his tenure he mobilized resources to purchase properties for the party and assisted members in diverse ways.
He said he applied strict financial discipline, a move that did not sit well with some party members at the time.
“I know some party members were not at home with my protecting party purse to position the party on good financial legs by accusing me of being too frugal and miserly, but the method paid off because I did not want to recklessly dissipate the party resources to weaken the party financially,” he explained.
Late Entry, Strong Strategy
Dr. Yeboah dismissed suggestions that he had delayed in joining the race, saying “God’s time is the best.”
He assured supporters he will spring a surprise despite entering late.
“Am a well-known figure in the party not a neophyte when it comes to competitions of this nature and am fully prepared irrespective of the time left for the showdown because one month in politics is not too short a time. I have a different strategy that would work for me,” he posited.
The NPP is expected to hold its national executive elections in the coming weeks as the party prepares to reorganize ahead of 2028.
