UEW Young Commons Forum leaders pledge to nurture future policymakers

The newly inaugurated executives of the Young Commons Forum (YCF) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have pledged to carry forward the vision of the Forum’s founders by nurturing a new generation of policy-oriented leaders, thinkers, and innovators.

Speaking on behalf of the new leadership shortly after the Minority Leader inaugurated the Forum at the UEW Central Campus, on Friday, September 19, 2025, president of the Forum, Emmanuel Osei, expressed gratitude to students, patrons, and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in them.

He particularly acknowledged the support and mentorship of the Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, who inaugurated the Forum.

“With great pleasure and humility, we accept this responsibility. The day has come for us to take ownership of our destiny and shape the future. This challenge motivates us to commit to leadership and to remain steadfast in this course,” Osei said.

Commitment

He emphasized that the new executives will dedicate their tenure to nurturing future policymakers, political thinkers, economists, and innovators who will drive Ghana’s development agenda. According to him, while tertiary institutions continue to produce graduates rich in theoretical knowledge, there remains an urgent need to complement this with practical policy engagement.

“This programme marks a beginning. It is a call to bridge the gap between theory and practice so that the development we seek can be achieved. We are honored to be part of this vision,” he stated.

The YCF president lauded the Minority Leader for his continuous investment in youth mentorship and encouragement, noting that his example inspires them to groom not only policymakers but also young entrepreneurs across the country.

“We salute you, Hon. Minority Leader. With your guidance and the collective effort of all stakeholders, we believe we can sustain this vision and build a platform that empowers the next generation of leaders,” Osei further indicated.
