The High Commission of Malaysia in Ghana Hosts Homecoming Luncheon for MTCP Alumni

The High Commission of Malaysia in Ghana hosted a warm and celebratory Homecoming Luncheon in honor of the Ghanaian alumni of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP). The event brought together past MTCP participants, distinguished guests, and key stakeholders to reflect on the enduring partnership between Malaysia and Ghana through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and people-to-people connections.
In his opening remarks, His Excellency Syed Nauzer Idid, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. and Acting High Commissioner of Malaysia to Ghana, conveyed heartfelt appreciation to all attendees on behalf of the Government of Malaysia. He offered special recognition to Bishop (Dr.) Sarpong of the National Teaching Council for his unwavering support of the MTCP alumni network, and warmly acknowledged Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Guest of Honour, whose presence reflected Ghana’s strong commitment to education, international collaboration, and sustainable development.
The luncheon celebrated the spirit of MTCP “Sharing Prosperity Through Knowledge” a guiding philosophy behind the program since its establishment in 1980. The MTCP, a key pillar of Malaysia’s South-South cooperation efforts, focuses not on aid, but on partnership through technical training and capacity development.
Since Ghana joined the program, hundreds of Ghanaian professionals, government officials, and practitioners have travelled to Malaysia to participate in MTCP courses covering areas such as education, public administration, agriculture, trade, ICT, health, and sustainable development. Participants return with not only new expertise but also a deep appreciation for Malaysia’s culture, values, and friendship.
Addressing the MTCP alumni, the Acting High Commissioner underscored that their role goes far beyond being former participants of a training program. He highlighted that they are, in fact, the architects of the enduring partnership between Malaysia and Ghana. As professionals who have gained knowledge and experience in Malaysia, the alumni serve as living bridges between the two nations—embodying the spirit of cooperation, mutual understanding, and shared progress. Their insights, professional networks, and continued contributions within their respective fields are seen as essential drivers for the ongoing success and strategic development of Malaysia-Ghana relations.
The High Commission of Malaysia reiterated its commitment to working closely with alumni as strategic partners to identify priority sectors for future cooperation. Key areas of mutual interest include technical and vocational education, digital innovation, renewable energy, and public sector reform.
In a forward-looking gesture, the High Commission expressed its enthusiasm to co-develop joint Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives with MTCP alumni. These could include community-based projects in environmental sustainability, public health advocacy, conservation, and youth empowerment, reflecting the MTCP’s mission of turning shared knowledge into real-world impact.
The luncheon served not only as a celebration of the past but as a launchpad for deeper engagement and future collaborations.
