“We owe referees and match commissioners, but we will pay” — GFA President, Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has publicly acknowledged that the GFA is indebted to referees and match commissioners for services rendered during recent football seasons. Speaking in an exclusive interview on Kessben FM, the GFA boss was candid about the financial challenges facing the association but was equally firm in his commitment to settling the outstanding payments.

“Yes, we owe referees and match commissioners,” Okraku admitted. “But let me assure them and all stakeholders that we will pay. There is trust in our delivery, and we remain committed to fulfilling our obligations.”

Kurt Okraku used the platform to appeal to the refereeing body and match officials for patience, acknowledging the crucial role they play in the success and credibility of Ghanaian football. He emphasized that the current situation is not out of neglect but rather due to broader financial pressures that the GFA, like many other football associations worldwide, is navigating.

Despite the financial difficulties, Okraku expressed confidence in the GFA’s ongoing efforts to stabilize its operations and meet all outstanding obligations. He highlighted that under his leadership, transparency and accountability remain top priorities.

“There is trust in our delivery,” he reiterated. “We may face delays, but we do not run away from our responsibilities. We’ve made progress in many areas, and this will be no exception.”  he said.
