The New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful Paul Afoko has pledged to reunite the party, rebuild its structures and lead a determined campaign to recapture political power in the 2028 general election.
Afoko, who has formally filed his nomination to contest the NPP National Chairmanship, said the party’s journey towards the 2028 election must begin with the decisions it makes about the character and direction of its leadership.
According to his campaign message, he insisted that the NPP must bring back members who have left the party and end divisions that have weakened its internal structures.
He stressed that the party’s objective is not merely to organize conferences but to win elections and return to government.
“Our journey to the 2028 general election begins now,” Afoko stated, urging delegates to choose between unity and division, strong organization and complacency.
He further pledged that, if elected National Chairman, he would work tirelessly with the party’s 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to return the NPP to power.
Afoko also rejected suggestions that the National Chairman should not come from the same geographical area as the party’s presidential candidate.
He argued that Dr Bawumia does not belong only to the northern part of Ghana but to all Ghanaians, and therefore regional considerations should not determine who leads the party.
“When elected on October 3, 2026, I will reunite, rebuild and recapture power for the NPP,” his campaign message declared.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its National Executive elections on October 3, 2026, in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi as the party intensifies preparations to rebuild after its 2024 electoral defeat.
