Bank of Ghana Denies Reports of Planned Sale of New $260 Million Headquarters

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has firmly denied reports suggesting that it is considering the sale of its newly constructed headquarters, describing the claims as “false and misleading.”

In a press release issued on June 2, 2026, the central bank responded to a MyJoyOnline publication dated June 1, 2026, titled “Bank of Ghana considering sale of new $260m headquarters – sources.”

“The Bank of Ghana categorically states that this report is false and misleading,” the statement said.

According to the BoG, it is not considering, discussing, or planning the sale of the new headquarters, stressing that the facility remains a vital asset that supports its operations and enhances efficiency in carrying out its statutory mandate.

“The facility, which was commissioned to support the Bank’s operations and enhance efficiency in the discharge of its statutory mandate, remains a critical asset of the Bank,” the central bank stated.

The Bank urged the public and media organizations to disregard the publication, warning that unverified reports concerning its operations could undermine confidence in Ghana’s financial system and create unnecessary market uncertainty.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, the BoG said all official communications are disseminated through its website, verified social media platforms, press statements from its Communications Department, and signed statements from the Secretary of the Bank.

The central bank also encouraged media houses to seek clarification directly from the institution before publishing reports related to its activities.

The statement was issued by the Bank of Ghana’s Communications Department on June 2, 2026.
