After 3 Terms in Parliament, Hawa Koomson Targets NPP National Women’s Organizer Post, Cites Mobilization Experience

Former Awutu Senya East MP Mavis Hawa Koomson has declared her intention to contest for the New Patriotic Party’s National Women’s Organizer position, saying her track record in mobilization and connection with grassroots women makes her the right person for the role.
Speaking about her decision after the 2024 elections, Koomson said she chose to aim higher after serving three consecutive terms in Parliament.
“After the 2024 election I made up my mind to contest for National Women’s Organizer, and I have many reasons,” she said. “Looking at my capability and my ability to mobilize, the way I interact with people… I need not talk about just Kasoa alone. You can attest to the fact that in Kasoa, I’m the only member of parliament who has held the seat continuously for three terms. Nobody else has done that.”
Koomson said her continued popularity in the constituency showed the trust people had in her leadership.
“If I served for three terms and the fourth one was not possible, does that mean the people didn’t like me? Maybe something went wrong, which we all know. That is why they are still calling me to come back. The mother that I was, I’m still the mother to them as we speak,” she said.
But she said she would not return to Parliament, preferring instead to take on a national role to strengthen the party’s women’s wing.
“I wouldn’t go back as a member of parliament again, because I’m now going a step higher to manage the women’s front in this country. Women are the majority, and if you don’t have someone with the skills, the capability, and that motherly love to organize women together, it will be very difficult to bring them on board.”
Koomson argued that the NPP’s women’s front needs a stronger leader to mobilize the large number of women who remain inactive.
“For the NPP, we have a lot of women, but they are not active. They are sitting somewhere because they don’t have a good leader. The women’s front is weak, and we need a vibrant person to revive it. That is why women expect that from me.”
She said her goal is to win the position and mobilize women across the country to support the party’s agenda.
