Democracy Hub Demands Full Report Release, Clear Reform Timeline; Calls for Greater Role for Traditional Rulers

Civil society group Democracy Hub has called for the immediate release of a yet-to-be-disclosed Constitutional Review report, citing transparency and public trust as key concerns.

Speaking on the issue via zoom interview on Kessben TV’s Digest show, Kirchhoff Atengble, Director of Policy Research at Democracy Hub, said the group is pushing for full disclosure. _“We are demanding for the full report because we need to know all that entails so the ordinary Ghanaian will also appreciate it,”_ he stated.

Touching on accountability, Atengble said, “We are talking about transparency because we want to analyse the outcome and deliberate on possible errors.

Because of trust issues, we want the public to interrogate it and leave no room for any doubt.

He clarified that Democracy Hub is not alone in the call. _“We are not the only group demanding for the full report but we at Democracy Hub are using our weight to solicit for it,”_ Atengble noted.

He also said they have placed the demand only on the general public but not directly to any particular institution.

Atengble acknowledged government’s posture so far. _“We have noticed the NDC government being very cooperating in this regard, and are hopping for the full report to be released when is it completed,_ he said.

Beyond the report, Democracy Hub is advocating for an expanded governance role for traditional leaders. _“I wish the traditional authorities be given some responsibility in governance to uplift their weight and contribution to nation building,”_ Atengble said.

_I am looking forward to an extent that the traditional rulers would be uplifted to a standard where they would be adjudicate on their own,”_ he added.

In construction, Atengble said the group expects ongoing committee work to align with national demographics.

Government has not yet indicated when the full report will be released or provided a timeline for reforms.
