Kessben TV’s political analyst Nana Frimpong Ziega offered a sharp critique of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s current position, predicting that they would remain in opposition for a long time. Ziega’s remarks are a direct commentary on the party’s internal divisions and its leadership challenges as Ghana prepares for future elections.
Ziega speaking on Kessben TV with Kwame Appiah Kubi made critical mistakes that may jeopardize its political future. He believes that the party has set itself on a path where it is likely to stay in opposition for a prolonged period. Ziega argued that the NPP has yet to recover from internal discord and has failed to present a united front to the electorate. The political analyst pointed out that despite the NPP’s previous successes, their recent decisions and internal conflicts suggest they may not be in a strong position to secure victory in the next election.
A significant portion of Ziega’s comments focused on internal disagreements within the NPP, particularly surrounding the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He addressed the fact that some members of the party have expressed a desire to move away from Bawumia’s leadership, which Ziega described as a “wrong” position. Ziega emphasized that such dissent within the ranks of the party was detrimental, and suggested that those who have criticized the Vice President’s potential candidacy are mistaken. In his view, Bawumia remains a strong figure for the party, and any opposition to him within the NPP could only work against their efforts to stay relevant in Ghanaian politics.
Ziega further underscored that for the NPP to avoid a prolonged stay in opposition, the party needs to come together and rally behind a singular leadership direction. He argued that the fragmentation within the party, especially regarding Bawumia’s leadership, is a major hurdle to overcome. Without addressing these internal challenges, Ziega predicts that the NPP will continue to lose ground in future elections.
