Petition Demands NPP Crack Down on Ken Agyapong Over Alleged Anti-Party Conduct

The TESCON coordinator at New Juaben south for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Opoku, has petitioned the party’s leadership to take disciplinary action against former Assin Central MP and presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, over what he describes as conduct that undermines the party’s unity and authority.

In an interview with Kojo Preko Dankwa on Kessben Maakye show, Owusu dismissed suggestions that the NPP leadership is weak, insisting that the party remains capable of enforcing discipline and protecting its core values.
He argued that comparisons with the case of former NPP stalwart Kwame Baffoe “Abronye” are misplaced, noting that Abronye’s situation was exceptional because it occurred in the heat of an election period.
According to him, Abronye refused to appeared before the disciplinary committee because he insisted that Kennedy Agyapong should be invited to respond to concerns raised against him before he would also adhere to the call of the disciplinary committee.

Opoku further claimed that while Abronye actions were directed at an individual, Kennedy Agyapong’s recent conduct and statements appear to challenge the party as a whole.

The petitioner questioned reports suggesting that Agyapong could withhold support for the NPP due to personal grievances, arguing that such a position would be unfair to the many supporters who continue to look up to him within the party.
He also maintained that Agyapong, known for his outspoken criticism of fellow politicians over the years, should be able to tolerate criticism directed at him.
Opoku further alleged that Kennedy Agyapong’s political rise benefited from opportunities provided by former President John Agyekum Kufuor and other leading figures in the NPP, making his current posture towards the party difficult to understand.

He therefore called on the NPP leadership to sack Ken Agyapong.

The petition is likely to fuel ongoing debate within the NPP as the party seeks to maintain unity and rebuild ahead of future electoral contests.
