Lies and Intimidation Define NDC’s Election Strategy – Richard Ahiagba
NPP’s national communication director Richard Ahiagba says lies and intimidation define NDC’s election strategy.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) plans to cheat in the upcoming general election. According to the NDC, these claims stem from their belief that the NPP uses intimidation and manipulation to influence public opinion. However, the NPP has dismissed these accusations as baseless lies.
He said, “The NDC has a history of making similar claims”. For example, during the 2020 election, they insisted they were winning but later accused the courts and other bodies of being biased, referring to them as “Unanimous FC.” This was in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling against their election petition.
Speaking on the Kessben Maakye Show with Kwabena Owusu Dankwa, Richard Ahiagbah, an NPP National Communication Director, refuted recent comments made by NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi.
Sammy Gyamfi alleged that a brigadier general, along with other NPP members, was plotting to rig the election in the Ashanti Region.
He also criticized the NDC for attempting to discredit former President John Agyekum Kufuor, describing him as a statesman who led with integrity during his tenure. He questioned why the NDC continued to attack Kufuor when they failed to find any evidence of corruption against him or his ministers during their own time in power between 2009 and 2016.
Furthermore, he expressed concern about a video circulated by some NDC youth in Obuasi, threatening the Electoral Commission (EC) and claiming they would declare John Mahama as the president of Ghana, regardless of the election outcome. He noted that such behaviour is unprecedented in Ghana’s history and reflects the NDC’s lack of a strong campaign message.
The NDC has also accused the NPP of deploying the military to intimidate voters and cause chaos during elections. He dismissed these allegations, calling on Ghanaians to reject the NDC at the polls. He described the claims as a diversionary tactic meant to shift attention from the NDC’s lack of a credible campaign strategy.
Again, he challenged the NDC’s assertion that polls show they are winning the election. He argued that these claims were not based on credible sources and described them as a scam designed to mislead the public.
He accused the NDC of deliberately targeting the youth, many of whom may not be familiar with the achievements of former President Kufuor. According to him, this is part of a larger strategy to distort the truth and erode the NPP’s credibility.
Richard Ahiagbah finally criticized Sammy Gyamfi’s comments, accusing him of disrespecting authority and relying on lies to influence public opinion. He urged Ghanaians to focus on the facts and not be swayed by the NDC’s allegations, which he described as an attempt to divert attention from their shortcomings.
