NPP Primaries : Putting The Spotlight On Asante Akyem Central Constituency – Kofi Ofosu Nkansah To Win On Saturday
The NPP parliamentary primaries in the Asante Akyem Central Constituency (AACC) scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2027, promises to be one of the most competitive in the country. Even though there are three candidates, the race is said to be between the CEO of NEIP, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah and the incumbent MP, Hon. Anyimadu Antwi.
Political watchers and pollsters, who have spoken to NPP delegates in Asante Akyem Central on their preferred candidate, have projected a massive win for Kofi Ofosu Nkansah in the Saturday primaries, despite machinations by Anyimadu to outwit his number one contender. Some of the reasons cited by the delegates for rejecting the incumbent MP include the following:
- Hon. Anyimadu has represented the Asante Akyem Central Constituency (AACC) in parliament for close to 16 years, and yet, the Constituency continues to be overwhelmed with developmental challenges, joblessness and lack of opportunities. They say the MP has done very little to better their lot, and access to him has been an issue except during internal party primaries.
- Hon Anyimadu has been embroiled in many national controversies with the latest being the LGBT issue and his seeming lack of interest in the passage of the anti-gay bill even though he is the chairman of the parliamentary committee in charge of the bill. Anyimadu has been accused of receiving bribes and other forms of inducement from the LGBT community to sabotage the anti-gay bill, and this accusation came from his own colleagues MPs on the Committee.
Indeed, on the very important day that the anti-gay bill was to be tabled before parliament for consideration, Hon Anyimadu who was supposed to table the bill (in his capacity as the Committee Chairman), was miraculously missing. All attempts to reach Anyimadu proved futile. Eventually, it had to take the ranking member on the Committee, Hon Bernard Ahiafor, an NDC MP to do that for him. How shameful!
Seeing the level of revulsion and utter disgust shown by Ghanaians including the electorates of AACC against LGBT 🏳️🌈 activities, the NPP delegates are very concerned that if they vote for Anyimadu (whose campaign is being fueled by the LGBT community as alleged), the wider electorates may reject him on December 7 to register their protest for the devilish “trumu trumu” movement.
Some religious, traditional and opinion leaders in Asante Akyem Central have given credence to the fears being expressed by the NPP delegates regarding the unanswered questions by Anyimadu on the LGBT issues. In order to break the 8, the NPP needs to present parliamentary candidates that have credibility to maximize their numbers, and not candidates with tainted reputation.
- Anyimadu recently caused the arrest of Kofi Ofosu Nkansah by the OSP because Kofi is doing what he (Anyimadu) has failed to do for the people of AAC (including the party delegates) in the last 16 years of being their MP. Kofi Ofosu Nkansah is not an MP yet, but he has provided more jobs, more scholarships, more developments, more attention, and more livelihood support schemes to the people of AAC.
It is based on the above reasons that the NPP delegates in Asante Akyem Central (75% of whom are young people) are rooting for Kofi Ofosu Nkansah (also a younger person) to become the party’s next parliamentary candidate as against the incumbent in order to boost the party’s electoral fortunes in the Constituency.
