National Chairman Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as part of his stakeholder engagement today held a strategic meeting with the Asia and Pacific Caucus of the External Branches of the NPP. The meeting, which brought together NPP executives, members and supporters across Asia and the Pacific, focused on strengthening Party structures abroad, deepening diaspora participation, and aligning the external branches with the Party’s 2028 victory agenda.
Addressing the caucus, Chairman Wontumi commended members of the Asia-Pacific branches for their dedication, and role in protecting the NPP’s values of Development in Freedom beyond Ghana’s borders.
He emphasized that, diaspora support in policy advocacy, fundraising, and voter education will be key to retaining power and delivering on the Party’s development agenda.
Members of the Asia-Pacific caucus welcomed the engagement, describing it as timely and motivating. They pledged to work closely with the national executive to ensure the external branches remain active, funded, and aligned with the Party’s strategic goals ahead of 2028.
A major theme of the engagement was the Party’s relationship with its grassroots and diaspora wings. Chairman Wontumi was self-critical about past shortcomings. He stressed the need for inclusion during the Party’s rebuilding process, “One of the mistakes we made was not engaging our grassroots and our brothers and sisters in the diaspora as effectively as we should have,” he stated.
“We failed to listen to their concerns and fully harness their ideas and contributions. That must change.” He told the Asia-Pacific caucus that external branches are not just fundraising arms, but strategic partners in policy, advocacy, and voter mobilization.
Wontumi was direct, he spoke on the critical relationship at the top of the Party hierarchy. “The relationship between the Flagbearer and the National Chairman must be one of trust, respect, and unity. That partnership is essential to our success and must never be compromised.
His readiness for the contest and for governance. “I am built for this battle, and I am fully prepared for the challenge of leading our Party back to power,” he said.
“I am ready to serve as National Chairman. My focus is to unite our Party, energize our grassroots, and lead the NPP back to victory.”
Discipline with a Door Open for Reconciliation
On the issue of suspended and departed members, Wontumi stressed the need for the Party to be firm and hold the line but should also be able to heal.
“The Party must remain disciplined. We cannot allow blackmail or undue pressure to dictate our decisions. The punishment imposed has served its purpose. It is time to look at the bigger picture and work towards reconciliation where possible.”
On the issue of Kennedy Agyapong, Wontumi intimated that, he will personally engage with Kennedy Agyapong in due course, “I will personally find an opportunity to engage Kennedy Agyapong because dialogue and unity are important for the future of our Party.” He added.
Reform on the Table
Wontumi also hinted at structural changes ahead. “We will continue to research and consult on our delegates system, including whether it is feasible and beneficial for the wider membership of the Party to participate in electing Party executives.” Members of the Asia-Pacific caucus described the engagement as timely and motivating, pledging to intensify mobilization and project the NPP’s values abroad.
