7200 shops using 1 metre as ECG disconnects power to Kejetia Dubai market, traders set demonstrate (Video)

The Electricity Company of Ghana has disconnected power supply to the New Kejetia market, Kessben News has established.

Traders at the market have resorted to the torchlight on their phones as means of light as darkness has covered the market which is roofed.

Kessben FM’s Osempakani Sampson reporting from the Kejetia Market noted that the market owes the Electricity Company a whopping amount of GHC5.2million.

Checks by the Kessben Newsroom reveal that the whole Kejetia Market which has approximately 7200 shops has only one metre that operates under a centralized electricity metre.

Nana Prempeh, chairman of the Kejetia traders speaking with Kwasi Ntiamoah on Kessben FM’s Breaking News noted that in the last three years they have written to the authorities for the market to have separate metres but there have not been a positive response from all the stakeholders.

He stressed that due to the power cut, they will be abandoning the market very soon to start trading at the forecourt if nothing is done this time. According to him, they are planning to schedule a massive demonstration soon.
