A Tale Of A Pentecost Elder’s Impact On The Fishing And Agriculture Front

When the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost Ghana, Apostle Eric Nyamekye declared the theme for 2021, it was an apparent call for the church’s members across the country to aim for excellence and impact.
The 2021 theme which reads “A Glorious Church Revived to Possess the Nations” (Ephesians 3:12,5:27) had sought to inspire members of the church to excel in their endeavors while causing positive change for societal growth and advancement.
It’s against this backdrop that this article seeks to shed light on the work and impact of one of the church’s elders in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.

Mr. Micheal Baah is a presiding elder of the Church of Pentecost in Kotoso in the Eastern Region. He emerged as the Overall Best Crop Farmer in the Eastern Region for 2021 at the National Farmers Day Event held at Cape Coast. He also won the award for the best Regional Fisherman.
He is not new to accolades as he has won several overall best awards at the District and Regional levels in previous years.
He tells a riveting story of how he has thrived as a farmer, fisherman and a servant in the Lords Vineyard.

Q. Tell us your name and give us a background of yourself
A. My name is Mr. Micheal Baah, a Professional Teacher, a Farmer and an Entrepreneur. I hold a Master’s Degree in leadership from the Pentecost University College. I have about 30 years’ experience in Farming and Fishing. I am happily married and I and my wife are blessed with 4 children.
I began fishing in 1993, joining my father who was a successful fisherman in Kotoso, Kwahu East and Kwahu South Constituency.
Having made so much success as a Fisherman I soon delved into Agriculture where I was tremendously blessed by God to acquire significant wealth.
I continue to use my influence to support fishermen in my area particularly through support for access to Premix Fuel for their fishing expeditions.
Q. Tell us about your journey into agriculture
A. My interest in agriculture was born out of my interest in nature and its ability to sustain mankind. Despite the apparent apathy for agriculture in most quarters I invested time and effort from very humble beginnings and today, there is palpable evidence to the fact that agriculture wields the power to create wealth and empower people. I am arguably one of the biggest farmers in Ghana with 138 acres of onions and several other acres of several crops.

Q. What does the award mean to you
A. This award is a huge motivation for me and others in my industry as it proves that there is indeed a reward for hard work. I believe that it will motivate me to do more and encourage me to mentor and empower others to attain the feet I have achieved.
Its represents a source of strength that proves that we must never despise the days of little beginnings, because there is reward for hard work and perseverance.
Q. Tell us about your membership of the Church of Pentecost
A. I am a staunch member of the Church of Pentecost. By the Grace of God, the Church of Pentecost has been the family God placed me into for my spiritual nourishment and growth. I have risen from humble beginnings to become an elder in the church and I am pleased with the opportunity that has offered me to impact others through preaching the good news of Christ and guiding His flock towards righteousness.
By the Grace of God, I have contributed significantly in both infrastructure and service to the church and I continue to do this with the hope that I am building up treasures in the Kingdom of God. I encourage others to emulate this as it pleases God that we serve him with our substance.

Q. Future ambitions and challenges
A. Having achieved this feet, I am not resting on my oars. I am re-energized and keen to do even more to reflect the glory of God and prove to society that there is incredible potential in the twin industries of agriculture and fisheries. I am committed to improving in every facet of my life including my service to the church and my endeavors in agriculture and fisheries.
I believe honestly that I am on course to achieve even more because I am totally reliant on God for his direction on more areas of investment.
Q. Advice to the youth to consider Fishing and Agriculture
A. My advice to the youth is emphatic: go all out, be intentional about your dreams and take full advantage of the opportunities present in the agricultural industry, there is genuine wealth to be made if the youth will appreciate and accept the values of integrity, hard work and excellence.
Aquaculture is fast becoming a huge area that I encourage our youth to explore. The potential is enormous and must be taken full advantage of.
Indeed, there is no shortcut to success. It takes painstaking effort for any dream of value to materialize. It is important therefore to put God first, identify viable opportunities and commit to hard work at all times.

Conclusion
The story of Mr. Baah is indeed impressive and reflects the emphasis placed on productivity and excellence by the Church of Pentecost. His ability to combine his many endeavors with service to the church and his community is commendable and worthy of emulation.
Apart from his successes as a business man, he recounts his contribution to society through the employment of some 154 permanent workers and 400 casual workers, the construction of three (3) separate toilet facilities for his immediate community and funding support for schools in the community.
Support for the health needs of the underprivileged in his community through the mass registration of the aged on the National Health Insurance Scheme as well as footing the bills for persons unable to access healthcare is the highlight on his impact to the community.
He acknowledges the immense contribution of his dear Wife, Mrs. Hannah Yeboah Baah for supporting him through the years to make a mark.
