Respect the role of the Judiciary in elections – Judicial Service
The Judicial Service of Ghana has called on stakeholders involved in the electoral process to respect the crucial role of the Judiciary in ensuring credible and peaceful elections.
This was contained in a 304 page manual launched on Friday which was written by the service.
The manual shows how election disputes and the interpretation and the enforcement of the 1992 Constitution will be addressed.
The Acting Director of Judicial Reforms and Projects at the Judicial Service, Joe Ampong Fosu told Citi News the, the Judiciary is prepared to settle cases on electoral violence and malpractices.
“Whenever there is a problem, they shouldn’t resort to violence but the court is there to serve the people; they should come and then we shall peacefully adjudicate on the matter. So that we can co-exist and have that peace during and after this election.”
Explaining the content of the manual he said: “This one contains the CI 72 that was currently passed and it contains a number of landmark judgments that seeks to guide people in getting the best out of the manual. So that is an addition or a modification.”
He stated that his outfit has engaged in a series of activities such as the Chief Justice Forum, “we’ve engaged the public in different forms on this same manual and we are doing it this time…because we feel the attention and the focus of everybody now is on election.”
Mr. Ampong Ofosu advised the electorates saying, “if you really want to follow, know your right, your responsibilities and all that, it is the best time for you to follow up on any activity that seeks to bring peace during and after the election.”
