Ghana opens £1.5m new consular section in London

The Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Mr J. H. Martey Newman has unveiled a plaque to formally open the newly refurbished consular section of the Ghana High Commission at Highgate Hill in north London.
The 1637 mansion which was redeveloped at a cost of £1.5 million is now equipped with high-tech and ultra-modern visa and passport processing gadgets with facilities for disabled persons as well.
Performing the ceremony, Mr Newman said that the edifice bore yet another testimony of the ability of Ghanaians to utilise little resources at their disposal to achieve great results.
He urged the Ghanaian community to be in constant contact with their families back home and play proactive roles to support set national objectives.
He also urged them to market Ghana as a sterling destination for serious investments, a place of human rights and a land of solace to other people.
Mr Martey underlined that Ghanaians had build an exemplary image for their country over the years, “and all we need now is to preserve the peace and solemnity and our commitment to the welfare of our country to ensure that she continues to ride on the crest of democratic credentials.”
Earlier, the High Commissioner, Professor K. Danso-Boafo, said that the diplomatic mission was ever-ready to address the needs of all Ghanaians promptly and efficiently and that made it necessary to remove the barriers of bureaucracy.
He said the High Commission would continue to set high standards and work hard to achieve them in conformity with Ghana’s status as the Black Star of Africa.
Professor Danso-Boafo commended staff of the High Commission for their “wisdom and vision” which made the transformation of the consular section a reality.
