Former Western Regional Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party and former Deputy Director-General of the National Lottery Authority, Hon. Horma Akaisi Mieza, says she is coming to be the bridge between the leadership and the grassroots of the NPP.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday after successfully going through vetting for the position of National 1st Vice Chairperson at the NPP headquarters in Accra, Hon. Horma said the questions from the vetting panel all bordered on how to rebuild the party after the 2024 defeat.
“I think a number of questions were asked, and everything bordered on how this party can be rebuilt. So I think I did not just go there to answer questions, but I learned a lot whilst I was in there with them. I’m grateful to the panel,” she said.
She told delegates that a vote for her is a vote for grassroots power, because she has been with the grassroots in the trenches and understands their cries.
“To all those listening to me, I’ll say that Horma is coming to be a bridge between leadership and the grassroots because I believe that real power lies with the grassroots. They should vote for me because I am going to be the bridge between leadership and the grassroots. I have been with them in the trenches. I know what their problems are. I know the things that they need. I’ve heard their cries. I’ve been with leadership as well, and I believe that with this platform, I’ll be able to advocate more for them,” she stressed.
The former Western Regional Treasurer also appealed to delegates to maintain female representation at the highest decision-making table of the party.
“To my women, I say it’s very important that we keep a woman at the table. So please don’t leave me out,” she appealed.
Hon. Horma Akaisi Mieza further noted that she is the only aspirant for the position coming from the Western Region, and for regional balance, she deserves consideration.
“I’m also coming in as the only rep from the Western Region, so I believe that for the purposes of regional balance, I should be considered for this position. I wish everybody all the best, and I hope to see them all in Kumasi,” she said.
On how delegates are receiving her on the campaign trail, she said the response has been overwhelming because she was not an armchair regional executive.
“Interestingly, it’s been going very well, and the good thing is that because I was not just an armchair executive, regional executive, I was all over the place, so everywhere I go, there’s one familiar face or someone who can say something about my good works, and that in itself encourages me to go on and on,” she added.
Hon. Horma Akaisi Mieza is among the leading contenders for the National 1st Vice Chairperson position, a slot that is critical for party unity and mobilization.
The NPP will on October 3, 2026 converge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new national executives to lead the party’s rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections.
