Supreme Court throws out Oppong Nkrumah’s bid to reverse legal vacation trials ruling

The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed an application by the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, seeking a review of an earlier decision that threw out his application for an injunction against the hearing of cases during the legal vacation.

The decision was taken by a three-member panel of the apex court on Wednesday.

Earlier in the hearing, lawyers for Mr Oppong Nkrumah had asked the Court to adjourn the hearing of the review application, citing the late service of documents by the Attorney-General’s Department.

Counsel for the MP, Frank Davies, argued that the documents were served on him late and prayed the Court to postpone proceedings to allow him adequate time to respond.

However, the Supreme Court dismissed the request for an adjournment and proceeded to hear the substantive application.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah had gone to the Supreme Court seeking to challenge the hearing of what he described as selected cases during the legal vacation.

His injunction application was earlier dismissed by the Court, prompting him to file a review application in an attempt to have that decision reversed.

But the panel unanimously dismissed the review application, effectively bringing another setback to the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP’s legal challenge over the conduct of trials during the legal vacation.
